🚥 The needle on what will be needed to qualify as one of the 8 best thirds has not moved too much since the start of the tournament.

3⃣ pts and a goal difference in low negatives is still expected to be enough.

I am really starting to appreciate soccer! What do you guys think, will tomorrow's USMNT unis celebrate LGBTQIS+ Pride Month, or Juneteenth? Or... somehow... both?!?
Pick an answer:
A) Canada has the maple leaf. We have the marijuana leaf.
B) Trump could pass, and then it would be champagne celebrations, no matter whether we Win Or Lose!
C) if you have not flipped your lid over the scoring output - by stars (save the embarrassing Ronaldo) - then I guess it's never gonna happen for you. I posted you a tactical video, too, by former men's national Hercules Gomez. Your absence from this page is noted.Quote:
the 2026 World Cup has seen significantly more goals per game, with an average of about 3.1 goals per match during the opening round. This is a massive jump from recent tournaments (like the 2.69 goals per game in 2022) and marks the highest-scoring start to a World Cup since 1958.
Historical Comparison: This exceeds the 2014 Brazil tournament's 3.06 average and drastically outpaces modern tournaments where averages generally hovered closer to the 2.5 mark.

Pepi starting. Either Balogun goes to wing or they play two strikers. Australia lively to play in a defensive block.
Jesse Marsch says three top surgeons at Vancouver General Hospital operated on Ismael Koné's leg last night. They were watching the game on TV, and came straight to the hospital after the injury.

Bam!
Clumsy own goal.

So many own goals in this tournament!
But I would say that the ones the USA got were created by their pressure on the goal, not purely lucky.

They were good enough to win their first game 2-0. Like Paraguay, not great but not terrible either. The US dominated both.

To my amateur eye it looked like they sent their rugby team by mistake. Slow, disorganized , terrible concept of offense

They're a defensive team that deliberately tries to muck the game up and score when the opponent gets frustrated and makes mistakes. Much of that look was intentional. Plenty of offenses can be ground down by that, but the US was able to punch in some goals and kill that strategy. Turkey couldn't.

US is playing well but this group looks weak. Trump probably put the fix in with FISA.
State of Washington had to issue a warning to World Cup visitors about how dank Seattle weed is 🤣 pic.twitter.com/2FLpTChPPY

Host teams typically get weaker groups and this is by design.
Still, we've never seen a US men's team guarantee themselves a playoff spot after 2 group games before. To do it by a 6-1 goal margin is super impressive any way you slice it.
