with the 2026 transfer portal mostly done (still need berkeley admissions acceptances & signed nil contracts for 3 committed defensive linemen plus a longsnapper), the staff is already building a wall around nor cal with 4 key pipeline high schools visited by the entire staff on monday plus a couple of in home visits with high priority targets such as serra high school's 3.3 gpa defensive back jeovanni henley & +1 athletic malakai taufoou

the #1 target overall on the staff's 2027 high school big board is apex predator edge defender with legit NFL upside 6'5" 245 lbs troy bowens from sutter union high school who would be a gold rush SACKMASTER addition to the bears d in future seasons!!

great news, troy is gonna visit berkeley again for an 8th time on an official visit on may 28-31st!!

this is a +2 athletic game changing prospect, if paired with commit giovanni hodge on both edges this would be a scary as **** deal for opposing acc qb1s!!

plus troy got good hair unlike coach lup (who got a 3 stooges trim)

KAAAABBBBOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

wowza, coach lup now got 2 ELITE bookend defensive ends that both passed on stanford actionable offers in 3.5 gpa troy & 4.0 gpa giovanni which is remarkable as the bears struggled to generate a consistent pass rush during the wilcox era and also that defensive line is the hardest position to find academically qualified prospects for the rigors of berkeley

Situation is reminiscent of when we had a winning football program under Bruce Synder, and lost him to ASU due to Athletic Department incompetence. He went on to take them to a Rose Bowl appearance if memory serves me. While our football team appears headed in the right direction with Ron Rivera managing things and Tosh focused on coaching, the support for the basketball programs has been woeful. Could not really blame Madsen if he decides to leave, though would hate to see it happen. Rather would see a cleanout of the Athletic Department and hiring of a manager for basketball programs.

2027 high school quarterback recruiting update:

in a very fluid fast changing qb1 recruitment the staff is now prioritizing 2 time all state cali gunslinger 6'2" 215 lbs dane weber from chaparral high school in temecula, he had a great unofficial visit to berkeley last weekend as the only prospect in town

the ball just flies outta dane's hands with a clean powerful highly accurate throwing motion

and weber is also a leader off the field too

so where do the bears stand right now??

dane is building "super close" (his words, not mine) relationships with coach lup after dinner at the limewood bar & restaurant and also coaches rolo & somerville who have tole him he's the #1 ranked qb1 on the staff's 2027 big board

https://instagr.am/p/DQKMuG_j6Y4
weber has also visited ucla & stanford and will be making a critical unofficial visit to usc tomorrow at which time he'll probably find out if he gotta an actionable offer or if the trojans staff is just ******* around and slow playing him

like the cal lineage of current & future NFL quarterbacks including 3.6 gpa aaron rodgers, 3.7 gpa jared goff, 4.0 gpa fernando mendoza & 3.75 gpa jaron keawe sagapoltele dane is NOT a dumb azz, he got a 3.8 gpa which would allow him to comfortably handle berkeley academics while spending time watching film together with the coaches 6 days a week year round in maximizing his NFL upside

yeah tosh learned a valuable lesson in the academically ineligible/flunking out 2.6 gpa zach maynard fiasco back in the day that ur qb1 gotta be the smartest bear of them all

dane is scheduled for an official visit during the bears 1st group recruiting weekend of may 28-31st

a NFL level qb1 at the college level is kinda like a winning lottery tix/a berkeley degree!!#

usc unofficial visit update:

dane did NOT get the actionable offer he is seeking, the trojans staff is gonna conduct may evaluation throwing work outs with multiple qb prospects from across the nation

zachary benitez from el cajon is the current clearcut qb1 favorite for offensive coordinator luke huard in the battle for the only qb scholly

max homa (70, tied for 33rd): homa got 2 eagles & 16 birdies thru 3 rounds, how the **** is he tied for 33rd??

mr grumpy pants: max yelled "****" (poorly disguised as a cough) after visiting 3 jack city on the 6th & then after spraying his drive right into a fairway bunker on the 7th yelled "******* piece of ****"!!

hoops, this season's basketball team lacked PHYSICALITY, it could get away with that **** against pre season mid majors/acc bottom dwellers (which is the level of play in next's week nit) but got their azzs handed to them in acc play (9-10 record)

troy bowens would bring an enforcer level of play to haas pavillion as a nightmare matchup 3 that could bully undersized opponents in the interior just like tony g back in the day plus as a +2 athlete he could defend on the perimeter!!

^ shocky met tim tebow when he remarkably hit his tee ball (or 2nd or 3rd shot punch out) on the par 4 18th hole at augusta national somehow how into the 10th fairway on which the shockster wuz bounding down...tebow had his hat on backwards & shocks tole him he'd better turn his lid around before he got in view of the clubhouse, tim laughed with me & we fist bumped...we talked later that nite at dinner on property, smart guy & not surprised at all that he married a cbyf1!!

max homa (73, tied for 33rd): looked sharp today wearing the olive green lulu lemon shirt paired with dark pants, lacey must've donated to goodwill his ugly as **** shirt with the mustard masking tape stripes thru the shoulders that we wore last week

good news: max is currently tied for 2nd with 21 birdies for the week (plus tied for 3rd with 2 eagles), that's a reflection of most EXCELLENT golfing his ball at times!!...plus homa is #1 in all pga self flagellation potty mouth swearing stats!!...let's ******* go, max!!

great news: homa ******* owns the par 4 10th hole playing it in an unreal 5 under par for the week!!

both max & michael kim will be making the short drive south to the ugly azz condos at innisbrook for next week's pga tournament

why do collin morikawa gotta bad back??

let dr shock break it down for you:

1) chasing speed and distance working out puts pressure on the back, it's not a cowinkadink that collin, michael kim & ziqin zhou all got issues with their backs

2) collin don't gotta yoga/meditation practice like shocky, yeah fafo

3) the indoor tgl required multiple long flights from las vegas to west palm beach & back the last 2 months...really hoping that morikawa limits his tgl matches in 2027 to coincide with florida pga tournaments with no other private plane flights

whatever

shocky just finished a 45 minute conference call (initiated by my golf buddy/doggy dog rescue facility mega donor mr silverleaf sun angel) with several key asu stakeholders (using search firm elevate led by kyle bolsby that will be reporting to superstar athletic director graham rossini) re: my thoughts on mark madsen

tole them that mark is a high character/family man, high basketball iq developer of talent that is likable that could build a sweet 16 level program but that he's ****** right now in a no win cal hoops job with minimal NIL support, no basketball practice facility & near ZERO student attendance (and an aging season tix/donor fanbase that is losing 15% of them every year with no replacements)...his only weakness is a below average coaching staff but tole them that might be a function of a limited coaching staff talent pool budget as cal athletics are run by 2 don't give a **** worthless bureaucrats (who are NOT berkeley grads)

fun facts: asu offers FREE tixs to all students for men's basketball games, got nil fundraising that significantly exceeds cal and a 51,290 square foot state of the art weatherup center (2 regulation basketball courts) that serves as a practice facility for both the mens & womens program and will break ground on a $100,000,000+ renovation of the on campus wells fargo basketball arena this may

for those of you who don't think there are MAJOR consequences of jay & jenny running a ****show might be in for a surprise or two

Weird dynamic to have your NIL budget tied to an assistant coach who is "head coach in waiting" for the 50 year old Madsen. Reminds me when Todd Bozeman was Campanelli's assistant. Also it is a weird dynamic to have your assistant running NIL.

I don't discount the possibility that Madsen would leave - I really hope he doesn't. But that ASU situation you describe seems less than ideal. My sense is Madsen will have better options. Hopefully Cal finds a way to keep him, as he seems to be building a nice program.

goggles, nil fundraising is the #1 priority for any coach & athletic director (which is why the unlikeable jay & jenny cannot be renewed when their contracts expire july 1, 2026 under any circumstances), glaser's ability to make it rain is priceless in 2026

reread my 1st post on this topic, asu got more nil dollars than cal, asu got a state of the art dedicated basketball practice facility, the university is spending $100,000,000+ to renovate wells fargo arena starting this may & got a LOUD student section that get FREE tixs to all home games...the east valley in the desert got a huge mormon population which would make the madsen family transition seamless & could be activated by mark to become sun devils gameday tix buyers...why do u think a non berkeley grad head coach would think that cal is a better hoops job than asu??

Both basketball programs need alumni support badly. As Sebastabear has mentioned elsewhere, this isn't going to be accomplished by bake sales and small amount donations. The football program had to take a step back, losing to Furd, getting Wilcox out and Tosh in, and clarifying Ron's position as Manager moving forward. Perhaps losing Madsen will alert Lyons to the poor state of the MBB program. Has Lyons reached out to those alumni who could genuinely make a difference in NIL and the practice facility fundraising? I don't know, but seems both basketball programs need a manager to help with fundraising and liaising with the rich alumni who can move the needle. If you have good facilities, competitive NIL, AD and alumni support you will attract and retain quality coaches.

greg, agreed nothing is a done deal now but things are moving quickly & madsen is scheduled to interview with asu tomorrow (monday)...keep in mind the last time we had this conversation wuz when the monster (whose sources on this wuz multiple bearents) reported that jaydn ott wuz heading to oklahoma which wuz disputed by you

one of the questions mark will be asked is he's willing to include current santa barbara assistant coach (reporting to joe pasternack) derek glasser (a relentless recruiter) as an associate head coach (and potential head coach in waiting)...glasser is an asu grad & played with james harden in tempe back in the day, harden has promised to "significantly" elevate the asu nil hoops budget if his buddy glasser is the head coach

it's a shame that the one person who could potentially get jaylen brown involved with the bears hoops nil fundraising got tole to **** off back in the day

Madsen passed up the Stanford and BYU openings. I'm not sure why he would jump at ASU unless the family is not enjoying life in the East Bay.

Also, when the BYU opening came up, it was stated by Curtis/Wilner that the coach's buyout in Madsen's contract is $1 million per year or $1,750,000 per year if he leaves for "another Pac-12 or ACC team." I don't know if ASU is still included, but the lowest it could be is $4 million if the "PAC-12" clause is not applicable and they wait until after March 31 to hire him. If it is applicable and they hire him this week, it is $8,750,000.

I expect ASU to look into the Utah St. HC. His teams have been to the last 4 NCAA tournaments. He has a better track record and can recruit. If Madsen takes an interview for real interest or leverage may actually work to get Lyons attention. Lyons needs to act quickly and get rid of the co-Ad's ASAP. They cannot be involved in MBB like they are not with football. This might help getting the ball rolling.

Lyons obviously will be heard by BG and Sebastabear about getting a legitimate GM in their that has the cache to solicit donors to get the NIL money and complete the transaction for the purchase of the practice facility by the athletic department. Time to kill off all the roadblocks and any obstacles that gets in the way.,

glenn, kevin kennedy is right but nothing is gonna change until jay & jenny are gone (which is why shocky wuz the 1st person to lead the charge to terminate general knowlton, markeisha everett, tom lowry, etc)...rich is the chancellor of the #1 ranked public university in the WORLD, he does not have time (nor should he be focused) on something as trivial as hoops fundraising, that's the job of the athletic director

john, madsen is gone if asu extends an actionable offer...believe what u wanna believe, ur contract information is poorly sourced & inaccurate (my source is someone whose actually read mark's employment contract)

george, there is zero chance asu is gonna hire utah state head coach jerrod calhoun, the #1 choice would be creighton's greg mcdermott but he intends to retire soon & has already bought a tree fort in north scottsdale near shocky so he can play golf every day

shocky's newly incorporated sports book betting site monsterloseurazz.com thinks the current asu leaders for this opening are madsen, glasser (went to asu & high school with harden) or new mexico's eric olen (who did miracles at uc san diego prior to albuquerque, he's also a finalist at boston college)

real talk: nobody in the cal athletic ticket office/marketing department (the downside of hiring non berkeley grads that don't give 2 *****) including their "leaders" jay & jenny are working on a sunday nite, ZERO details re: the men's wednesday game & women's thursday games

monsterloseurazz.com is predicting a real (vs the fake announced numbers) crowd of less than 2000 for the men's & 1000 for the women's games unless FREE tickets are given to all attendees

yeah FREE cookies too for everybody!!

Excellent point about the marketing. I bought a parking pass (not even tickets) to a Santa Clara basketball game this year and received an email about the NCAA tourney.

Nothing yet from Cal and I'm a season ticket holder.

hoops, feel ur pain, maybe that's why cal mbb finished near the bottom of the acc in attendance this season despite a bubble ncca tournament team & now the head coach is done working for jay & jenny and their empty promises??

if the nit wuz not tied into the seeding process, do u think the bears would be hosting a 1st round game??
