These announcers are disgustingly pro German

Unfortunately we all have to watch Paraguay more
Could be the biggest losing day for the Japanese and Germans in quite some time 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

I continue to think there must be a better way to handle these tiebreaks than the terrible penalty kicks, but I guess if no one has figured it out by now then there isn't.

Why change anything? It's both drama and performance under pressure

How about 60 minutes of overtime but sudden death and no limit on substitutions (except once you go out you can't go back in). Then PK. That would reward deeper teams.

Because the game should be won using major elements of the game, not an obscure element that does not happen in most games. Both teams lose in a shootout, one team just a little more.

That is funny.
While some players are past their primes, they quality of attackers at this World Cup will never be repeated. Including (not in order):
1. Messi
2. Ronaldo
3. Modric
4. Neymar
5. Vini Jr.
6. Haaland
7. Diaz
8. Salah
9. Mane
10. Kane
11. Saka
12. Mbappe
13. Dembele
14. Olise
15. Doue
16. Yamal
17. Pedri
18. Nico Williams
19. Doku
20. DeBruyne
Of all the active attackers of the last 20 years, it is nearly everyone. Lewandoski is an exception.

Paraguay giving Germany all they can handle! 1-1 in extra time.
On one hand I think overruling the German goal was ridiculous as there was little contact. On the other hand I think there should be a rule change to take away messing with the goalkeeper.

Teams that go through 60min of OT would be at a significant disadvantage for the next stage vs a well-rested team. That however might work for the final.
The penalties are fine, the stronger team mentally wins. Similar to shooting FTs in the final minute of a close playoff game. Also favors the underdogs usually.

SHOOT OUT!
Paraguay outshot 21 - 7
And only had possession 25% of the time.
But a 1 - 1 draw after 122 minutes.

I did not watch.
Does Germany suffer from the same thing England does? The need to manufacture pretty, well constructed goals. Maintain possession and pass it around the horn, never taking chances because then you might have to risk a turnover, which means more running and possibly getting scored upon.

Scoring and goaltending are not obscure. These are
major skills and penalties also lend themselves to strategy and practice, they aren't random. The most compelling thing is the ability to perform under pressure, again something that separates champions from
Journeymen.
