In a process that began decades ago, Britain is finally ending the 700 year inclusion of hereditary nobles in the House of Lords. Government minister Nick Thomas-Symonds said the change put an end to "an archaic and undemocratic principle."

Now it is up to the United States to end an "archaic and undemocratic principle" with a huge reformation of the United States Senate.

Yeah I think that if you compare those generations head-for-head at like ages the average amount of accrued wealth is about the same. Some generations are bigger (the Boomers are the biggest).

There are probably still some big differences in certain sectors, though. Home ownership feels like one that's gotten progressively tougher since Boomers were young. The job market also seems a lot more volatile; people can't expect to stay with the same company for a long time like they used to.

Probably bad for those who depend on tourism for business, but good for those of us who have an interest in public safety. if it means less criminal gang members, and other killers, rapists, and terrorists come to our shores, that's worth it, in my book.

I don't think these folks are generally who is included among "international travelers."

But even more than that, one big reason why the USA became such a dominant world power was because it became a destination for the best and the brightest from all over. If that's ending . . . look out.

Yeah, that's a pretty short-sided definition of "international travelers". Almost defies logic really.

Never mind what this has done to Carnival, Caribbean, and Norwegian Cruise lines. Their stock prices have cratered. Layoffs coming.

Your original post mentioned only NY Times statistics on travelers to the US, and said nothing about immigrants, legal or illegal. The statistics are about international travelers, which include people who come here for defined periods of time for pleasure, vacations, or for business, or education.

Everyone who comes here legally should be coming in with a visa for a defined period of stay, and a deadline for leaving. I was not talking about immigrants, as you seem to be doing now. My point was that there are some individuals who do travel to our country under false pretenses, a phony passport, etc., and some of them come to commit criminal acts, and they were counted in the statistics as "international travelers". Traveling and immigrating are two different activities. Both have different requirements and rules.

Regarding the best and the brightest of other countries, they should be coming as legal immigrants, and I welcome and celebrate them as you do. I am the grandson of immigrants, and I thank them for having the foresight to come to this land to make a better life for themselves, and by extension, make the country a better place. I have a problem with those who come to dismantle the place. A big problem.

Hopefully it ends up for the better this time, and not like it was before Castro:

Under Fulgencio Batista, particularly during his second term as dictator (1952-1959), Cuba was characterized by severe political repression, rampant corruption, and deep economic inequality, with strong ties to U.S. interests and organized crime. His regime suppressed political opposition through violence, torture, and extrajudicial killings, creating widespread dissatisfaction.

Ai has been used extensively by medical dx companies like Ilumina, GRAIL, Guardant Health, Natera, etc. in the sequencing process and identification of protein structure for cancer screening.

It can speed up development from years to just months.
Exciting!
