The Mainstream Media is untrustworthy when it's criticizing Trump, but completely trustworthy when it's Biden.

To those so outraged by this and so enamored with the poor Afghans, I'm sure you will immediately recommend opening the immigration gates to get them out of harms way. ( Which should happen for those with US ties)

Agreed. Though sadly I also expect this to be a s***show.

Canada will resettle 20,000. The US so far has settled 500 in 2021. S$ithole country

News footage can be misleading, but it does look like quite the s*** show in Kabul the past couple of days. I mean, this was going to have some bad optics any way you slice it, but didn't Defense, Intelligence, State and whoever else sit down and plan this out starting a few months ago?

Biden supposedly filled his administration with seasoned, competent professionals. What have they been doing lately? (too early for a final judgement, but fair to pose the question)

Reminds me, on a different scale, of our inept defense of the Capitol building on January 6th.

Reminds me of our inept response to COVID in 2020.

Maybe I had built up a false image in my head, but I used to think of the US as the "can do" country, not the "can't do" country.

Personally, I'm mad at the Afghan people for letting this happen. I feel bad for the little girls that will be oppressed and victimized by the application of extreme religious views upon the populous. The ones that will be raped, then stoned to death for committing adultery, or the one's that will have acid tossed on their face because they want to go to school. But their fathers and mothers and brothers and sisters and cousins just let this happen. The sob stories that will come out about how bad America is by letting this happen is mitigated by the fact that America is not the only responsible party.

The people we were trying to protect didnt bother to protect themselves. We gave them a generation of relative peace and security and billions of dollars to try to build something better. The Afghan people squandered that opportunity, and the afghan people need to accept the greater responsibility for the Taliban rule. At the least, they could have at least attempted to defend themselves. They had years of training and the necessary weapons, they just couldn't be bothered. So **** them.

They've been at war for decades not only with each other but with foreigners- Russians, foreign mujahadeen, then Americans. We've occupied them for 20 years not because we give a **** about women ( who were actually treated better in the communist years, a regime we fought against with Islamacists ) but because they were pawns in our geopolitical counter terrorist strategy.

So what do you when you are occupied in a desperately poor country? You play along. You join an army of 300,000 because it's a pay day. You play along when some some ngo decided a woman Assistant Manager of Pizza Hut in Kabul is a great global breakthrough. In the end though we didn't build s$it( it was a Potemkin Village, ruled as usual by warlords)

And do you really think they are going to put their lives on the line yet again because Americans have the naive ideas about self determination and womens rights and the evils of the Taliban. F$ck that. They know the Taliban and they also know they are way better off alive than with more decades of bloodshed in a stupid proxy war against superior forces

A confidential trove of government documents obtained by The Washington Post reveals that senior U.S. officials failed to tell the truth about the war in Afghanistan throughout the 18-year campaign, making rosy pronouncements they knew to be false and hiding unmistakable evidence the war had become unwinnable.

This is amazing stuff. However, anyone with half a brain always knew this war was unwinnable because...
a) we never even define what "win" entailed
b) if we even defined it, whatever we came up with was never going to happen (well, maybe except "get Bin Laden" which happened years ago and never even slowed us down)

According to this former CIA analyst, there was no plan for every contingency as Biden stated in his address, it was a bold faced lie. Plans for evacuation were prepared but mostly ignored and were only conducted at the very last minute. The airport's only runway represented a single point of failure and was never secured.

Biden weak? This is Trump's thing. Hell, he's been talking about pulling troops immediately from Afghanistan for a decade.

But he couldn't do it. Why did it take 3 years to even get an agreement in place? Because he was too busy feuding with Chrissy Teigen and John Legend and other celebrities and watching cable news. Trump was the weakest president in American history. He cried like a baby over every little sleight.

He also couldn't protect the White House from a COVID outbreak. Couldn't even follow simple procedures. Why? Because he is too weak to be inconvenienced.

If Trump was president, he would be hedging and prolonging this war. Biden is ripping off the band-aid. Because he doesn't watch cable news and spend all day and all night on Twitter.

Party over country to you Dajo. Apparently, the bravest thing you ever saw a president do was lie to the public, oversee a terrible exit from Afghanistan, and then blame everyone but himself. He sounded like a stubborn, old fool. If Goff gets strip-sacked, I can criticize his ability to hold onto the ball without having to be an NFL QB myself. You could to if you weren't so ridiculously biased.

Most Bidenistas here actually recognize that the withdrawal was executed as bad as Dykes defense defending a Hail Mary. They deflect to discuss what Trump would have done or say the war was unwinnable etc... The execution of the withdrawal was dog****, period.

Here is a snapshot of the scrambling the US is now doing:
There is a Reserve Unit Squadron of 30+ C17's in Charleston. Almost overnight they have 8 crews of reservists on a mission to extract 18,000 US citizens. Then hopefully Afghans who supported the US. That's a lot of C17 work without much time to do it.

Interesting thread from the leader of the Afghan central bank. It's amazing how much money we lit on fire over the past 20 years only to have this happen. I look forward to the bipartisan hearings to get to the bottom of what happened.

I once had an instructor at UC Berkeley Extension from Afghanistan who claimed they used to play polo using bloated Russian corpses. As he began to explain further, two women got up and went to the bathroom.

They actually do play polo with an animal carcass- it's their national sport. The Russians may have been a substitute when a goat or lamb was hard to find.
