What else can one do? This presidency is a train wreck and one has to laugh in order not to despair. We are absolutely not celebrating the decline of our country. However, we are pleased that it's crystal clear to anybody who cares to acknowledge reality that Trump has the worst traits for a president: corrupt, egomaniacal, dishonest, uncaring, petty, vindictive, authoritarian, divisive, and warmongering. The sooner he no longer has power, the better for the future of the country.

Celebrating what you view as a Trump failure is celebrating the failure of America. Spin it how you want but that's how it comes across

Just so we are all clear, Iran's attacking of civilian oil tankers are deliberate war crimes.

Somehow, I doubt that things would be a lot better with Vance as President

Sadly, the American people have elected a President who is bad for America and bad for the world. The better his failures are exposed and highlighted the sooner we can stop the damage and begin the long work back to being a respected world leader again.

Currently America is the weakest and most reviled it has ever been in my lifetime and that is all because of Trump. I highlight his failures because I love my country.

Remember when someone here told us just a few weeks ago that gas prices wouldn't go above $4.00 a gallon because our oil companies produce so much oil for the U.S. and the war in Iran wouldn't really impact our prices?

How naive can you be?

The United States can maintain gas prices under 4 dollars based strictly on Canadian and US reserves and refining

As a net exporter of petroleum products and crude oil, the U.S. overall makes more revenue when fossil fuel prices rise

The strategic reserve is about 58% full. This is up from historic lows of around 350 million barrels in 2022-2023 after major drawdowns

Careful who you listen to. Money is made by selling panic.

Yes, so no complaining allowed from American gasoline consumers. The American oil companies stand to get rich so everybody else needs to keep their mouth shut. Trump and the American oil companies are willing to accept your sacrifices.

Rising oil prices will lead to higher electric costs before long. 60% of our electricity is generated by fossil fuels. So, your EV costs will go up too. Probably not as much as those using ICE vehicles though.

Good summary of US oil trade and flows

There's a lot of confusion out there, including with Trump, that the US has lots of oil to sell to the world.

We do not. We're a net importer of crude (~+3 Mb/d). The EIA reports that fact in great detail every week.

The confusion stems from using the term "petroleum exports" which includes the bodacious amounts of natural gas liquids (NGL) that come from our wet gas plays. That stuff isn't "oil" and it is exported because it's wildly overproduced compared to our needs.

Yes, the US is a net exporter of "petroleum," but it's also a net IMPORTER of crude oil. In other words, the US has none to sell.

There's more complexity to why we export 3M b/d of crude (it's the wrong kind for our refineries) and also import 6.4 M b/d of crude (which is the right kind).
DiabloWags
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yup.

The word "petroleum" includes Nat Gas which is a by-product of drilling for crude and we have an abundance of it.

The U.S. imports heavier crude to match refinery capacities that cannot efficiently process all domestic light crude. Our refineries on the Texas Gulf Coast are predominantly equipped to refine sour (high sulfur) crude.

Think Canada, Mexico, and Venezuelan crude.
