Biggest one session spike in history last night.

Position coming into the weekend was net short.
Hence the massive spike and +$30 last night.

My opinion is that the market was net short coming into this weekend and participants were forced to cover and/or hedge their position with futures and options contracts which caused the $30 spike.

That kind of historic spike tells you that people were positioned incorrectly and had to adjust.

Once they were done re-positioning last night, the market came back off to $99.

Currently up 8%

Because they panicked and over adjusted without really knowing what was happening with oil.

Yeah, commercial market participants didnt know what was happening with oil.
They had no clue and had to adjust their hedges.

Correct.
Markets are dynamic.

I suspect that market makers of crude oil options got caught in a massive GAMMA SQUEEZE last night as call options that they sold forced them to purchase futures contracts in order to hedge. The more the oil futures rallied, the more the call deltas increase, the more futures the market makers are forced to buy, etc., creating a positive feedback loop until they have fully adjusted their hedge.

Thus, this was not a case of people not really knowing what was happening with oil.

It was simply due to re-positioning hedges in order to get to DELTA NEUTRAL.

Hottest year ever

The pace of change in global warming is increasing. It's getting hotter faster.

thanks CCT, now there are (at least) two of us worried, hereabouts.

per your link..
> "If the warming rate of the past 10 years continues, it would lead to a long-term exceedance of the 1.5C limit of the Paris Agreement before 2030," said Stefan Rahmstorf, the lead author of the warming study and a researcher at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. "How quickly the Earth continues to warm ultimately depends on how rapidly we reduce global CO2 emissions from fossil fuels to zero."

"Israel's strikes on 30 Iranian fuel depots went far beyond what the U.S. expected when Israel notified it in advance sparking the first significant disagreement between the allies in more than a week of fighting, according to a U.S. official, an Israeli official and another source with knowledge.

Why it matters: The U.S. is concerned Israeli strikes on infrastructure that serves ordinary Iranians could backfire strategically, rallying Iranian society to support the regime and driving up oil prices……

The president doesn't like the attack. He wants to save the oil. He doesn't want to burn it. And it reminds people of higher gas prices," a Trump adviser told Axios."

Just like they did when Biden used it because oil prices rose during the Ukraine War.

Israel is getting pummeled, USAF pulling its taker fleet out of the GCC for fear of being targeted by Iran.

"The difficulties in winning this war are numerous. The US-Israel coalition's capacity is beginning to fatigue, with a reduction of up to 65% in attacks, as I reported yesterday.

I also reported that CENTCOM seems to be inflating numbers to create a perception of victory, but the truth is that in both Israel and the White House, the plan has shifted to how to end the war without it looking like a defeat.

I don't see the slightest sign of fatigue in Iran yet. They still operate more than 30 ships, their submarine fleet, and over 300 missile boats, not to mention a large part of their air force. And, ten days into the war, Iran continues to launch missiles strategically. Very few THAAD radars remain in the region.

It seems nobody learned anything from the Russian difficulties in Ukraine. No matter how many missiles or bombs are dropped on Iran, it hasn't shown signs of causing fatigue to the regime. Iran still holds the strait, and contrary to what many predicted, they opened fire on American assets in neighboring countries so violently that it intimidated any initiative from those neighbors to respond, even though the US maintained attacks from those territories as bait for Iran.

The big issue in all of this is that during negotiations, they were close to a deal with Iran and the construction of a path forward. It is not simple to win a war against Iran. The way forward is to build bridges, as was done with Turkey decades ago, laying new tracks step by step. I confess that this has become more complicated today.

The war strengthens Iran's relationship with its proxies, making any future work much more difficult, including efforts aimed at the security of other countries."

This lends me to believe that the war will not last long, as as much Bibi wants to keep fighting, he might be forced to tap out soon.

China allegedly brokering a cease fire, go-betweens with the Saudi and Iranians. This might explain oil prices sticking around $100.

The most TRANSACTIONAL president in the history of the United States is getting BORED.
I mentioned this last Friday afternoon.

Trump told CBS in the afternoon today that the war was "very complete, pretty much"

That's when stocks took off and oil collapsed $14 from where it was trading.
From $95 to as low as $81

Delusional premature tweet by someone who is clueless and could use a reality check.
This "jam" is just starting.

FACT: Maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz has dropped by 80% as of Sunday.

FACT: In 2022, the oil market freaked out over a 3 million barrel "disruption" in Russian crude that was never actually a disruption. Oil traded $120.

The oil disruption today is UNPRECEDENTED.
Just ask Aramco about the "catastrophic consequences" if the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked.

All Trump did was "talk" the market down yesterday.
I'm sure Jared and Don Jr made some nice coin in their futures account.

Oil will head right back up and make new highs if the Strait is still "closed".
The pure physical supply disruption is UNPRECEDENTED.

Very small sample size.
One day.

lolz

Guess what happens when you are ARAMCO and you have run out of places to store oil that you've been producing because it can't get out of the Strait?

Answer: You stop producing. You shutter wells.

When you shutter an oil well, you can't just turn it back on like a light switch.

It takes days, weeks, (and sometimes months) to bring back "shuttered" oil production.
That's a fact.

I'm glad you brought up Aramco

DiabloWags

Yes, I read CEO Nasser's remarks during their earnings call this morning.
Perhaps you should actually read what he said, in order to provide some further context.

I REPEAT: PRODUCTION IS MEANINGLESS IF YOU CAN'T GET IT OUT OF THE MIDDLE EAST.

Saudi Aramco promises full production can be restored within days if Strait of Hormuz is reopened - MarketWatch

Here's some additional context:

However, mitigating some of the supply challenges the region's oil producers are facing, Nasser pointed out that Aramco is close to being able to divert most of its production onto an east-west pipeline, its only alternative route to export markets. Aramco, which drills about 7 million barrels daily, expects to be redirecting 5 million barrels to its port at Yanbu on the Red Sea in the very near term.

In fact, I'm surprised that you haven't started your own Twitter feed and have had to rely on others for info.

I will be glued to OT waiting for any post by you that gives the "all clear" signal that the Strait of Hormuz is back open and safe for oil transport.

Hypocrisy is a key component of MAGA. All these people freaked out over the American deaths when Biden ended the Afghanistan forever war, which unquestionably made us all safer. But they have no qualms about the deaths of Americans in this pointless war which has solidified extremist, dangerous rule in Iran for another generation. America has ratfu**ed Iran for 70+ years. I'm sure that Trump's GOP will do real well during Midterms.

The "America First" and "No New Wars" President was voted into office in 2024 by 77 million Americans.

In fact, Trump called it a "blowout" and a "landslide"

77 million American's can't be wrong, right?

I mean, they've never been duped by Trump.
Everyone got their DOGE and Tariff Refund checks as promised.

Gas and Grocery Prices are down.
