The Chinese have signaled that they will not tolerate their oil shipments from Iran being seized. Their threat to counter such a move might be to supply Iran with advanced surface to sea hypersonic missiles - some like the DF-27 with very long range that could hit Diego Garcia or any naval base in the Mediterranean.

Bottomline: Trump continues to escalate, and in doing so it puts Trump further into a "box".

Notice that he's ALWAYS surprised when his opponents push back.
Like when he was surprised that Iran would close the Strait of Hormuz.
Or like how they wouldn't open it during the cease-fire, as he thought they would.

Like when Minnesota pushed back on his deploying ICE to the state.
In his infinite wisdom, he did nothing more than send more ICE there.

He escalates.
He does not know how to diffuse.

Literally, the DUMBEST PRESIDENT in my LIFETIME.

The Taiwanese are smart, there is no desire for any type of a military confrontation that they know is unwinnable. It looks like there will be a unification transition plan put in place for Taiwan similar to that for Hong Kong if/when the KMT takes over from the DPP in the next 5-10 years.

You should know by now that Iran is a tougher nut to crack than Venezuela, the Chinese are committed there, and they can escalate simply by providing Iran with weapons they don't currently have.

It is useful to look into the history of Hong Kong, and how this concession came about.

For Taiwan, the Iran crisis and the fate of GCC countries being mauled has been an eye opener for their political class, the KMT is already more or less anticipating a negotiated takeover.

This just goes to show how young and naive people are when they follow someone like Adam Kobeissi who graduated from college in 2020 and has a whole 5 years of market history under his belt.

The S&P opening 10 points lower and then rallying is not a massive reversal.

The IEA says that we are experiencing the biggest supply disruption in history and that it could take as long as 2 YEARS to recover.

The IEA estimates that the war will slash global oil supply by 8 million barrels a day this month, or almost 250 million barrels in total. Flows thru the Strait are down by more than 90% and has jeopardized about 4 million barrels a day of regional refining capacity.

That's the equivalent of 16 Chevron Richmond refineries.
