Remember all the brouhaha about Warren blocking the Jetblue-Spirit merger? Well that merger could have been fatal to Jetblue, which is now on the brink, thanks to Trump pushing Bibi's War.

San Francisco Chronicle yesterday: "When some of the most aggressive anti-pollution appliance measures begin next year, Bay Area homeowners will need to spend thousands of dollars more for water heater replacements."

I remember one particular poster repeatedly showing their political bias and bashing the Biden Administration for blocking the JetBlue/Spirit merger.

Spirit was in such bad shape that the Trump Administration didn't even want to save it.

Rumors of a BK filing are most likely false.
But anyone thinking that Spirit would have "helped" JetBlue in a combined merger has no clue about the issues plaguing the Airline Industry.

Really unhelpful, they should have at least made sure that new installations follow these rules and grandfathered older ones, which will eventually have to be replaced.

There is talk about a possible exemption.
The Bay Area Air District meets today to discuss.

A similar effort to phase out gas water heaters in SoCal stalled last year, when the South Coast Air Quality Management District voted to reject the new rules given the cost concerns to homeowners.

Bay Area may soften landmark gas appliance rules with new exemptions

Replacing a broken water heater in the Bay Area is about to get vastly more expensive

What we certainly do know is that blocking the Jet Blue acquisition of Spirit was certainly contrary to their goal of ensuring price competitive and preventing a monopoly. Spirit just declared bankruptcy, and it appears Jet Blue is in trouble as well. We absolutely do not know if they would be doing better had the merger not been blocked by pocahantas and sleepy joe. They absolutely could be, despite fuel prices rising to about the same level they were during the biden administration.

NG is "clean" fuel, but they want utopia. Putting everything in the electrical basket and not allowing free choice is ridiculous. If it wasn't a religion, they'd at least construct more reactors at Diablo Canyon per its original design. Another move to harm working people.

Why do Trump's economic policies hurt the poor more than anyone else bro?
Why are we exporting 61% of our crude oil?

Tariffs are a regressive tax.
High fuel prices are regressive as well.

Your boy Trump sure knows how to crush the lower and middle income class.

His post is not accurate.

If the rule were to go thru, the rule to ban the sale and installation of all gas-burning furnaces would start Jan. 1st, 2029, followed by a ban on gas-powered thankless water heaters Jan 1st, 2031.

Just the facts.

The reporting is still evolving, but the clearest and most repeatedly reported case is:

* Saudi Arabia reportedly denied or suspended U.S. use of Saudi airspace and bases for "Project Freedom."

That appears to have been a major factor in Trump pausing the operation.

Other countries have reportedly refused participation, naval support, or base access to varying degrees:

* Spain reportedly refused use of bases for Iran-related operations.

* Italy reportedly denied aircraft transit via Sigonella and resisted expanding involvement.

* Germany rejected participation and publicly said "this is not our war."

* United Kingdom declined to send warships into the operation.

* France resisted sending naval forces pending diplomacy/stabilization.

* Japan declined military participation.

* South Korea paused or suspended review of participation.

* Australia reportedly declined involvement.

* Estonia and Luxembourg were also mentioned in some reports as rejecting involvement.

There are also unconfirmed or lightly sourced claims involving:

* UAE refusing airspace access for attacks on Iran, and

* Austria restricting overflight permissions,

but these appear mostly in secondary or social-media-amplified reporting rather than firm official announcements.

The important distinction is:
many of these countries were not saying:
"We support Iran."

Rather, they were saying things like:

* "We don't want to join a widening regional war."
* "This operation was launched without consultation."
* "Protecting shipping is different from participating in combat."
* "Our bases could become Iranian missile targets."

For Gulf states like Saudi Arabia or UAE, there is also a very practical concern:
their oil infrastructure, cities, desalination plants, and ports are geographically close to Iran and vulnerable to retaliation.

So even allies that dislike Iran may still avoid giving the U.S. operational launch rights if they think escalation could put their own territory at risk.

Thanks for the well-informed posting Cal88.

The only thing saving us from massively higher prices is the fact that our economy is not as energy intensive as it was back during the Arab Oil Embargo in '73 - '74.

That particular gas station is a monopoly station in a remote part of the Mojave desert. So, yeah, it's going to be way more expensive than everywhere else.

You mean like that station in NEEDLES, CA located in the middle of nowhere from that NY Post article you posted last week without adding any context?

The gas station in NEEDLES that was charging $6.99 per gallon for Regular?

I hear that Needles is a big MAGA haven.

The last oil tanker from the Middle East arrived in California this week.

The New Corolla, which left the Middle East for California before Trump and Netanyahu launched their criminal war of aggression, is delivering about 2m barrels of crude oil from Iraq to Long Beach. It was the last planned shipment to pass through the strait of Hormuz.

The California Energy Commission vice-chair, Siva Gunda, told legislators on Tuesday that the state can meet fuel demand for the next six weeks with its current supply.

California imports about a third of its oil from the Gulf, and the state will now have to find new sources to replace it.

Good luck with that, California."

I've noticed that CONTEXT seems to escape most Trump supporters.

Not sure why they aren't able to connect the dots . . . unless its because of their rose colored glasses when it comes to anything about Trump.
