It's also a pretty dumb approach since Iran can hit a big, fat slow-moving target like a loaded tanker in the Gulf from 1,000 mile away with a number of long-distance drones and missiles.

The troops as well would be sitting ducks.

I would hope we have defenses against long-distance drones and missiles. I haven't seen anything indicating we don't.

We actually don't, their offensive stockpile dwarfs our defensive stockpile, and under the best of circumstances, we don't stop the majority of incoming missiles even if we have enough interceptors.

Hard to shoot when your launchers are all being taken out

The National Enquirer would be a major upgrade over whatever sources you use for info on this war.

This is the opposite of what other sources are posting. A large number were knocked out at the start and the rest are steadily dwindling down. It is a slower rate because Iran is afraid to use them and no one wants to man them, for obvious reasons.

USAF tanker fleet hit on the ground in Saudi base.

It looks very likely now that the two tankers hit over Iraq have been struck by an Iranian missile, the model 358/359, which has also downed over 20 Reaper drones over Yemen and Iran. This missile is very unique, a clever design combining loitering capacity with anti-air homing, specifically designed to down US/Israeli loitering drones and USAF tankers.

No surprise, but it seems President Lizard Brain has put zero advance thought into this and the different ways it can play out (even for his own political future). Hint: most of the different end results are bad... and the one that is good is unlikely.

This is why letting Israel make decisions for the American military is a bad plan.

Let them send their own 5,000 ****ing Marines.

The straits of Hormuz is the new rallying cry- not nuclear weapons, not regime change, not we are about to be attacked. What this means is that oil now controls the narrative which gives Iran more leverage not less Trump
Is flailing as he realizes economy and markets will soon be in crisis

What it means is Iran has successfully taken control of the narrative.

The proof is that USAF tankers are no longer flying over central Iraq, keeping their refueling routes further south over the Saudi border.

I got a great idea on how to keep the Strait of Hormuz safe for oil tankers.

Don't start dumbass wars with Iran because Israel tells you to.

But do you have REAL proof? Were you there? Did you see it with your own eyes? Neither did Temu003, but people Temu003 trusts unconditionally say it is the other way, so…

You and waggers seem to get really mixed up on who you are talking about. If you are going to talk smack, at least pick the right target. Of course wags has to come in ignorant and guns blazing, supporting your mix up.

Or perhaps for a more positive US-centric example: like we did in Germany and Japan after WW2. That didn't necessarily take multiple generations (unless you want to argue that the US keeping military bases there counts as "occupation"), but it did take a lot more work than any subsequent governments have been willing to put in.

And of course, even with Germany you wound up with the Cold War split for a generation.

Yesterday, he said that the U.S. Navy would be escorting oil tankers thru the Strait "soon, very soon"

Of course, because the Trump Administration had PLANNED for the closing of the Strait, they are now scrambling the USS Tripoli out of where it is based in Japan.

That will take roughly 2 weeks.

Good article on all of the former generals that get venerated on these forums that go on TV and talk about the current war and also mentions all of the financial ties that they have since they retired from the military. Maybe they should get NASCAR racing suits just like our elected representatives.

Bingo!

And we know this because Trump has had to resort to releasing 41% of the oil out of our SPR and join a coordinated global effort by the IEA to release 400 million barrels - - - something that he did not want to do originally, in order to counter the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Some chatter today about Kurds willing to put boots on ground with U.S. air support. I am not well read on this subject so I AI'd it and it looks ballpark accurate based on the little I know. What say you?

"Current military assessments and reports from March 2026 indicate that Kurdish fighters alone do not have enough personnel or heavy weaponry to successfully win a land invasion of Iran, even with U.S. air support.
Chatham House

While a coalition of Iranian Kurdish opposition groups (CPFIK) has formed, experts highlight significant disparities between their capabilities and the requirements of a full-scale invasion.
Al Jazeera

Kurdish Force Strength vs. Requirements

Current Numbers: Estimates for the coalition's ready force range from 15,000 to 20,000 fighters. While the total number of Peshmerga across various political groups may reach 150,000, it is unclear how many are active or dedicated to an Iranian front.

Weaponry Deficit: These forces primarily possess small arms provided by the CIA; they lack the tanks, heavy artillery, and armored vehicles necessary to topple the Iranian government.

Invasion Scale: Military analysts suggest a successful invasion and pacification of Iran would require between 600,000 and 1.6 million troops due to the country's vast mountainous terrain and population size.
Instagram

The Role of U.S. Air Support
Air Dominance: As of March 13, 2026, the U.S. has achieved "total air dominance" over Iran, with fighters like the F-35C and F-22 Raptor operating largely uncontested.

Strategic Limitation: Despite sustained airstrikes, experts argue that air power alone cannot resolve the war or force a regime collapse without a massive, coordinated ground force to hold territory.

Proxy Strategy: The U.S. administration has considered using Kurdish groups as a proxy ground force to spark internal uprisings rather than as a primary invasion force.
Al Jazeera

Operational Challenges
Terrain: Iran's geography consists of hundreds of kilometers of rugged mountains and deserts, which favor defensive asymmetric warfare over light infantry incursions.

Iranian Resistance: Despite being weakened by strikes, Iranian security forces maintain a significant capacity for violence and have already launched retaliatory drone and missile strikes against Kurdish bases in Iraq.

Regional Resistance: Neighboring countries like Turkey are unlikely to support the arming of Kurdish groups due to their own internal security concerns regarding Kurdish separatism.
Instagram

Restated, while Kurdish fighters are prepared to act as a "front" to stretch Iranian defenses, they are viewed as insufficient for a decisive military victory without a massive infusion of conventional U.S. ground troops."
